Paladin Level 5, 3D Mace of Learning

Yeah, I used to play Dungeons and Dragons. But I also used to wear corduroy pants so you can't really hold it against me. These images have plenty of issues but I'm starting to get things to move in the right direction. Can't take credit for the bed (which is probably the coolest part of the thing) but other then that it's all me baby! Except for the chairs. Or the blinds. Mace of Learning!

Alfred Hitchcock Presents My Third 3D

My Second 3D: 3D for Dummies

I learned alot from this fork. You just have to know how to listen. Too bad it wasn't a tuning fork. Ba-dum-b...actually, I'm not even sure that gets a ba-dum-bum.

G-Force. G as in 'Glide', force as in force

Just for fun (sure this is fun! Right?) here is the original with legs crossed and the extra-crispy with legs in slouch mode. In retrospect not sure that it was necessary or successful to re-draw the pose. Well, I'll be; necessary has one "c" and two "s's" while successful has two "c's" and two "s's". Fascinating Captain. Anyway I did use reference for the uniforms this time. What I should have also done is decided on a scene before I pretended there was one. This is thanks to Photoshop's slight-of-hand. And the letter "G".

File this under "How did I not think of this earlier?"

Rough sketch (aren't these ALL rough sketches?) of a G-Force pose. I can't believe I didn't think of this already! I will need reference for this when I revisit it.

Kung Fu Chicken

Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't draw as well as you want to. Damn! I wanted this to be better, so it WILL be next time. Practice may not make perfect but it's gotta do something! Anyway, I flipped the Chicken in Photoshop and realized that I should have drawn this as the pose in the first place AND I should have drawn this better!! Dammit!! It looks like Glide's taking a Boy Scout oath for cripes sake!

Kill Chicken Kill!

Finally used a book I bought 3 years ago for reference! This pose was flat-out swiped from a poster for some movie called "Kill! Kill! Kill!". My guess is the movie was about some sort of killing. But seeing as how it's an old 60's or 70's B-movie, it was more likely about closeups of people discussing their plans and then one scene where some dude is running with a gun and shooting at stuff.

Robin and Chicken

This took way too long to draw but just like Virgina Slims is to the ladies, it was worth it.

The Good, the Bad, and the Chicken

Take two. I'm not talking about the candy bar or the R&B act.

I don't know who comes up with the names for these cats! Another work related drawing which has the added benefit of being fun to do

Apologies to Bill Maudlin

This was done without any real reference so there ya go. It has some obvious (to me anyways) inspiration from comics I had seen by the late great Bill Maudlin. And by some old dude I saw riding a hog with the same helmet and a cigarette hanging out of his mouth. I thought I flashed back to the 1950's except that I wasn't around in the 1950's. So I must have thought I flashed back to the mid 1990's when I saw some movie about the 1950's. If I do this again, I'll get reference first.

Chicken Royale

Only my geekdom was used for reference. And it seems that wasn't enough. Surprisingly.

Feynstein bobblehead study

This is pretty rough but then again my tools were an empty water bottle and a plastic fork.

A Chickenstrip a day keeps something something

Did this from memory so I'm sure it has many MANY things that are incorrect and I'm not sure how to spell inconsistencies. But you still knew what it was didn't you? That's right, you did. So here's a little gift from me to you...

Healthy Hummus

1 can garbanzo beans (chick peas. Coincidence? I think not. Wow that's an old reference in the year 2008)

1 tbls Extra Virgin Olive Oil (the one that tastes like olives)

1 1/2 tbls Lemon juice (mine came from a real lemon shaped squirt bottle. Thats just like the real thing!)

1/2 tbls chopped garlic

Some actual green olives
(I put in a forkful. Look it up. It's a word.)

Blend and enjoy meat-bags!

A Chicken a day...

Had the idea to put the folks in different scenarios everyday. For example remember the Charlie Sheen/Emilio Estevez movie where they play garbage men? Nobody else does either but...what? You do remember that movie? Seriously? Did you see that movie or you just remember it being advertised? You actually saw it? In the theater or on TBS? The theater. Wow. Didn't that movie make $14 at the box office? I mean that would pretty much be you and your date financing that piece of garbage, pardon the pun. I'm sorry, say again? You saw it twice? Wow. I am REALLY sorry to hear that. Anyway, I never saw it and now I don't remember why I brought it up.

Wasn't overly happy with how this came out but that's not the idea. The idea is just to do it. Like Nike or Ben Stiller's character from "Starsky and Hutch."

Apologies to Bill Watterson, Berkley Breathed, and everyone else I've ever wronged in comicstrip form.

Wow! I designed these shirts over six years ago and they are still going strong! Kopp's is the oldest bike shop in the country apparently.

Since I haven't done much lately, I'll put this up here. I think this is from 2002; holy frijoles that's a long time ago, no?

Coloring Books are Hard part 1

The one thing I'm really not very good at is everything and here is more proof. Okay, it's not that bad but there are certain rules to coloring books that I just don't have down yet. For example, coloring. I mean look at these images. No color at all. This is more like a colorless book than a coloring book. Also, you need to give kids lots of closed shapes to color which originally I didn't have at all. All my shapes were open and honest which I thought made sense since the saying goes "...like a coloring book." But I was wrong. Again.

Lights, Table, Action!

Some roughs to post to print to trace to love. Remember from SchoolHouse Rock? Verb? It's an action? The kid goes to the movies to see Verb? Then he runs home to his Mom? Come on! I'm not that old. Right? Somebody knows what I'm talking about here. Actually, I think my brother is the only person who reads this and I know he knows what I'm talking about. So there.

Lights, Table, Action!

Okay, really it's, "Light Table in Action" but does it matter in the grand scheme of things? No. No, it doesn't. Just like the Oscars. Ba-zing! Anyway, this is a composite of five different sketches all made possible by a light table. And the letter H.

P.S. In case you read this next month and wonder to yourself, "Why the Oscar dig? He doesn't seem like the sort of guy who would know what the Oscar's are?" it's because I was reminded by MSN this morning that the Oscar's are tonight. So I'm being topical. I have my fingers crossed for "Alien Vs. Predator Requiem" by the way. What a complete waste of absolutely everything that goes into making a (bad) movie! It's genesis must have gone something like this; "Hi, Predictable? Meet Crap. You two should get alone great! Now don't do anything I wouldn't do (wink) like have an unwanted child after a night of forgettable sex and name it Alien vs. Predator Requiem!" I'm big on quotes in this post.

P.P.S. Turns out the Oscar's are on Sunday. Shows what I know.

It's all happening at the MU

Preliminary artwork for movie-style poster. The final will probably lose all the sketchy charm that makes me think this could work! Larger versions of these cats show up somewhere in this blog trail. Like the logo? It's all me baby! Except for the schools that I'm sure I ripped it off from. Think Notre Dame meets Miami.

Coloring Book

Some preliminary sketches for a coloring book about safety. Remember,"Never run with crayons!"

Some More Stuff

This painting of Kelly is pretty old but was intended to be one in a series of portraits. Then I got lazy. Or busy. Probably got busy being lazy.

Some More Stuff

Here is a book cover I did for the textbook of the same name, that name being the name on the book cover. Not literally "The Name on The Book Cover". That would be ridiculous.

Some Stuff

Here's a spot illustration I did a little while ago for the magazine "Genome Technology". As you can see it's mostly done in Photoshop. What you can't see is that it was mostly done in the nude.
