Apple a day...

Should look better than this! This is more like an apple a month. And the apple looked nothing like this. Truth be told, it was an orange anyway.

Apples to Oranges

I really need to paint more. These are the good ones and they're from months ago. Painted one last week but it's not up here. For good reason!

Been a long time since I've Rock n' Rolled

Well it's a start anyway! Haven't drawn these guys in so long, it really does feel good to put em back in 'action'. It also feels good to have drafted Brady for my fantasy team but that's a different sortof good.

Chickenstrip Revival!

No, not really but it felt good to sketch these guys up again! Ah, good ol' King Features Syndicates. Good times! These guys got as far as the college newspaper and the copyright office but got stymied by a hand-written rejection letter from Jay Kennedy at King Features. They also made it to somewhere around 500 Trapper Keeper notebooks since that's how many stickers are floating around.

Texas Hold 'em

More of the same

Texas Hold 'em

Wanted the women to look a bit more cartoony so not sure if these are final character designs or not. Actually used reference for these to get hats, hairstyles. and clothes. So I got that going for me.

Something anyway 2

Click on it. It gets bigger.

This is begging to be a Boxing poster. And begging looks like beginning misspelled.

Something anyway

This was a pretty quick rough, 2-3 minutes. 3rd version though.

Life Drawing Round 3

Tried photocopying sketches to shrink down and then scan in. Not great but then again, neither are the drawings!

Mild Mild West

Jeez, how many of these am I gonna draw? Get it? Draw...

Yeah. I'm funny.

Big Trouble in Little Sketches

Thanks to my bud Ben for the inspirado for the new blogsite name. Almost the same, no change in the game. That's as good as it gets. Speaking of movies, this sketch reminds me of Snake Plissken when he was in Big Trouble in Little China. Best. Film. Ever.

Not really, but damn good movie. Title of this post doing double duty; homage to BTLC and to Hopwood hisself!

Thanks again, Ben you fargin ice hole. That's also a movie reference. Giggidy, gigiddity.

Mild Mild West

I was feeling pretty good about this one until I started reading "The Spirit" as drawn by Darwyn Cooke. So yes, it's a comic book. But I've also read "The Fountainhead" and "Atlas Shrugged" as not drawn by anybody. That's right, BOTH. In the same year. So now I can read as many comic books as I want. Anyway, Darywn Cooke. Go look him up. Or read "Atlas Shrugged". Your call.

This is a Skull...

Snake Wishkin

Never saw "Escape from New York." Never saw "Escape from LA." But I did see "Big Trouble in Little China" and this is as close to Snake Plisskin as I'm going to get without reference.

Mild Mild West

In a bizzare twist of life imitating art, these sketches were drawn just prior to my discovering (and soon after eating) Smokin' Cheddar BBQ Doritos. Try some and you'll see what I mean. You'll also realize how sad it is that I consider "discovering" a new flavor of Doritos akin to "life". Or is that readily apparent? Anyway, don't know why the Mild Mild West showed up but it did. Soundtrack courtesy of Pehnke.

Life Drawing Round 1

Fake Matisse. The model was holding this pose but I just couldn't get anything from it. So this is what I got. I'll probably illustrator this up at some point.

Life Drawing Round 1

Got bored with the model, quickies of a few of the folks. The one dude looked exactly like the old guy from Jurassic Park except without the hat. Or the dinosaurs.

Life Drawing Round 1

If any of these look good at all, keep in mind that I have five times this many that were far worse. Yet again, more proof of the need to draw everyday. Lost my focus by the end of the session and ended up with the fake Matisse.
